Meet our Founder, Fr. Chris
Fr. Chris Gaffrey, OFM, considers himself to have a heart for learning and for teaching that was instilled in him through his father, John Gaffrey, after whom he named our company. His father continues to be a major influence in his life with his motto "You can do anything you set your mind to."
Our History
Since Fr. Chris was already collecting money for fostering the education of people he knew in Central America who didn't have means, he felt called to expand the charitable work and decided to found a nonprofit that is solely charitable and not religiously oriented, except in fostering spirituality in general for the people it helps according to each one's conscience.
Therefore The Gaffrey Fondation for Education works with people of all faiths or no faith simply for the benefit of humanity. This is not only a good human value, it is also consistent with Fr. Chris's Franciscan values that builds bridges with all people of good will.
Though our charity works with religious nonprofits, especially other Franciscan charities to solely fund education and mentorship, it is not designed to be religious. Our hope is that those who partner with us will be reassured that the money they donate goes almost exclusively to the education and mentoring of people, with only small business costs.
To keep costs low, our company is incorporated in Delaware. Fr. Chris is the founder and volunteer director, but noone, not even he, is an "employee." By keeping our corporation staffed by volunteers, we hope to make sure that more money goes to the young adults we hope to mentor.
