"Changing the world, one person at a time."sm

Who We Are

The Gaffrey Foundation for Education Corp is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in September 2023 that helps those who face various obstacles to education find the financial and emotional resources to thrive in their formation and training so as to become agents of hope and transformation in their spheres of influence. We are guided by spiritual and human principles, working with people of all faiths and no faith to better the world, one person at a time.

You could say we are on a quixotic quest, but we like it that way.

We are named after our founder's father, John Gaffrey, who was a man who grew up with simple beginnings, thrived in his own schooling, became a lifelong learner, and grew to love sowing into the lives of others. John Gaffrey passed down the values of blessing others and pouring life into them so that they may thrive. They make up one of our core values: gratitude that turns into generosity.

What we do?

1

Find bright & gifted underserved youth.

2

Assess their emotional, developmental, & financial needs.

3

Provide resources for scholarships and mentorships to help them thrive.

Help us with your tax deductible donation to change the world, one person at a time.

Breaking the Structures of Poverty

The Rev. James E. Goode, OFM, Memorial Scholarship

Fr. Jim Goode, OFM loved to preach about God's mercy. But even more so, he loved to practice that mercy himself. In honor of Fr. Jim Goode, OFM, The Gaffrey Foundation for Education will be working with other partners in the community, and with the permission of Fr. Goode's Family, to start a scholarship program for young African American men and women who maintain a 3.0 or greater GPA and demonstrate a major financial need.

Central American Fund for Education

Yes, the accronym is CAFE. We don't just love coffee, we love the people who live in the nations that produce coffee, especially Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Our goal is to aid CAFE in funding the education of young men and women abroad who have the academic talent but no financial means to pursue university education. Our hope is that, by helping nations one person at a time, we will give them hope to be able to owrk for a better society in their own countries.

Helping Young Adults in Honduras

This is Gabi and Antonio. They are 20 and 18 and live in a rural town in Honduras with their aunt. For all practical purposes they are orphans. Their biological parents are simply not in the picture. Their grades are outstanding, but they have no money for college. The Gaffrey Foundation for Education helps raise funds for the Central American Fund for Education, started by our director. So far the fund has helped Gabi through two years of college at a total of $2,000 a year for tuition and will beging to help Antonio with his college in January. Our hope is that folks like Gabi, who is studying enginering and Antonio, who is studying law, will help their community in the future and even pay it forward someday just as they are being helped in their journey. The Gaffrey Foundation will be looking to set Gabi and Antonio up with local mentors in her area through our contact network and to sponsor more young adults like her in poor communities through different scholarship programs.

This is Belkys Guevara, she is from Nicaragua and has dedicated her work to helping young people in Honduras grow into healthy sexual maturity. The Gaffrey Foundation for Education is happy to sponsor her online studies to further her education in human development and sexuality. Her hope is to spread the positive and responsible message of the goodness of sexuality in a society that has some exaggerated ideas about it without much real education. If you wish to support Belkys, please donate here.

Valley of the Angels, Guatemala

We are passionate about helping children succeed. That's why our CAFE is also involved in funding the supply of computers to those most in need, like the orphans at Valley of the Angels. We've secured 25 desktop computers and 26 laptops to send to these children, who ar emost in need. To donate, please visit our Fundraiser. There you will see the receipts of the computers purchased. See below for how else we hope to help the orphans.

Fr. Rocco Scholarships

Fr. Rocco Famiglietti, OFM is described as a priest who was "todo madre." That's Guatemalan slang for someone who is honest, genuine, and concerned for others. Fr. Rocco founded Valley of the Angels Orphanage in Guatemala to help care for the poorest of the poor. "The poor get the poop end of the stick," he would say, "and the indigenous women get even worse." Fr. Rocco's vision was to give ample employment to indigenous women of Guatemala as teachers since they are often discriminated against. He also knew that the children left behind either by drugs or immigration or gangs, what have you, often suffer the most, which is why in 1988 he founded Valley of the Angels Orphanage. Currently run by Fr. Joaquin Mejia, OFM, Valley of the Angels is like a piece of North America dropped into the middle of Central America. The children are given food, education, medical care, psychological care, dentist care, clothes and everything else needed to give them a proper education. Many of the orphans that graduate from their school immediately find jobs to support other family members. Very few of them have the funds to go to university. The Gaffrey Foundation for Education would like to help change that. Working together with all the partner organizations of Valley of the Angels, The Gaffrey Foundation for Ecucation Corp. hopes to give a firm foundation of university education through "Fr. Rocco Scholarships" to those students at the orphanage who are bright enough for further studies but simply lack the means.

Yo Voy Con Ágape

The Gaffrey Foundation plans to partner with Associacion Agape in El Salvador to assist young Salvadorans to go to college and make a difference in their society. We don't just get by with a little help from our friends (sorry John, Paul, George, and Ringo). We get by with love, and that's the motto of Agape, love.
